First signs......
....... of sisterly love:
While entertaining friends yesterday (the three ladies, all sisters, who ran the school I used to work at). In Chinese "Can I take little sister home? I'll take her home with me ok?"
Tilly in English (and in fear and trepidation): Mama I don't want Evie to go!!
....... of things one day getting easier:
Tilly playing playdough this morning on the mat and Evie sitting in her rocker right beside her watching her and falling quietly off to sleep.
...... of not so sisterly love:
(Tilly has a baby doll also called Evie)
"My Evie is quiet Mama. (Pointing to the real Evie) - This Evie isn't quiet Mama. Just put this Evie in the bedroom okay Mama. Okay?"
Pretty tame really because all in all Tilly is proving to be a lovely big sister.

aw, really sweet. lovely post.
ReplyDeletealthough I HATE it when people ask Ellie that first question. WHY, WHY, WHY???? It really scares the kids. That is one of the times I throw out politeness and cultural sensitivity and just step in and say, "Don't worry, that's not going to happen."
the young supervisor came along too and tried to grab tills and said, i'll take you home. she freaked out and cried and needed lots of hugs and reassurance. it's been too long since she's seen them and it was pretty strange to say the two things right off the bat. so i was equally impolite and said, 'sometimes people say some really dumb things' hahahaha, they looked at me dumbfounded, not understanding. often people think kids are dumb, they are far from it....
ReplyDeletehaha. at least it was the bedroom not the hall!
